Sustainability

We farm on 4 acres of cleared land in the dry leeward slopes of Halaekala. Soil is the heart of any agricultural operation and we do our best to try and keep our soil alive and healthy and work hard to limit the amount of erosion. We accomplish this through the use of compost, compost tea, cover crops, perennial vegetative barriers to limit erosion, and by avoiding bare soil fallow. “Kupa’a” means “firm” or “solid” in Hawaiian and although the name originated in reference to the rocky soil here, it now reflects the solid, life-giving practices that we use to grow food.
