We grow our coffee under a canopy of shade trees that include monkeypod, native koa, and inga (known as ice cream bean tree in Latin America). We have a number of different types of coffee varieies but most of our coffee comes from red catuai, Kona tipica, and yellow catuai (pictured) which has yellow cherries. In professional cupping trials held in 2009 our coffee placed first overall on Maui and seventh in the state of Hawaii. In 2010 our coffee again placed first overall on Maui and placed second in the state of Hawaii.

Best Coffee in Maui 2009 and 2010!
...hard work pays off.
In the Hawaii Coffee Association's 2nd Annual Statewide Cupping Competition held in July 2010 on The Big Island at the Sheraton Keauhou Beach Resort, Kupa'a Farms won "Best Coffee on Maui" for the second year in a row. Their overall score also placed them second in the state ahead of all Kona coffees and eclipsed only by the first place coffee from Ka’u. Kupa'a Farms is owned by Gerry Ross and Janet Simpson.
“Kupa’a” means “firm” or “solid” in Hawaiian and although the name originated in reference to the once rocky soil it now reflects the solid, life-giving practices they use to grow food. Kupa'a grows a number of different types of coffee varieties but most of their coffee comes from red catuai, Kona tipica, and yellow catuai which has yellow cherries. Kupa'a Farms uses only organic farming practices on their farm in Upcountry Maui, where they also grow organic fruits and vegetables.
